2024 Tokyo Day 3

Today Merv and Robyn went to the zoo to see Pandas and we took Sally and Shaun on a trip to Yoyogi Park, entering through a back exit, so that we could walk along the park ways and end up at the Meiji Shrine. I set Google for the wrong entrance, which came out quite good since we got to walk through a bit of the park before finding the shrine. After a look around, we exited through the main exit heading towards the Harajaku area. On the way you pass by the sacred wine barrels and the sacred saki barrels, very pretty, but worrying.

Walking down some narrow alleyways, we passed the ubiquitous queue, this time people lining up for donuts (they may have been sacred as well). Our alley took us directly onto a street famous for its cosplay costumes, though in the middle of the day, no one was wearing any, just another large crowd looking for something to do.

To round off our day we visited the Akihabara district which is famous for its anime shops and for buying electrical gear. We looked in a couple of. Pokemon shops hoping to find presents for the grand children but failed miserably to understand the fad. We also tried a go to a Japanese Milk Maid restaurant but didn’t find the one we wanted and got dragged into another. Had to pay a cover charge, but unfortunately we had no idea what the concept was about, so really wasted our time and money.

The concept is that the “milk maid” panders to your every whim while you are there, making special coffees with pictures on top, pour your milk for your tea and generally talking to lonely men. We didn’t appreciate what she was offering, but that is life.
