Dimitsana Days

Bruce wanted to stay in a hilltop village, which we couldn’t do in Italy, since we didn’t have a car. Dimitsana is a beautiful town stuck on the side of a mountain and is perfect. The drive up here was a bit tricky, but Bruce enjoyed it.

It took us a while to find the entrance to our Guesthouse and then the parking was harrowing, but once inside it was a joy to behold. Lovely room with great views over the mountains and into the Main Street. The walk up into our hotel at night was beautiful.

On our second day here we drove to Olympia. It was only 70km away but it took nearly two hours of driving of very narrow, very winding roads. Rosie didn’t like the drive one bit but Bruce just took it in his stride and cautiously went along.

Olympia was very impressive. There was a large area of ruins, with several temple ruins. You also had the original athletics stadium, which everyone tried to do their “Chariots of Fire” impersonations.

When we arrived, parking was tricky since a large group from the MG club were doing their Greece rally and they took up a lot of space. Very impressive cars and one from Australia that had gone all around the world on these type of rallies.

Back ion Dimitsana for dinner in a lovely restaurant overlooking the mountains and enjoying some cheap (drinkable) wine.
