To get to Greece, the best option I could find was to go Etihad via Abu Dhabi. Unfortunately there was a 20 hour transit so I looked into their free stopover offers and we chose to stay for 2 nights at the Traders Hotel (actually only 30 hours) but much better than sitting in the airport. The taxi to the hotel was reasonable and the food prices were reasonable in the hotel so there was no real downside to this idea.
We intended to take a look around Abu Dhabi during the day, but when we walked out the front of the hotel, Rosie lost all interest, it was only 40°C at 10am. We went to the pool instead and were treated well, the lifeguard prepared our daybed with a lounge towel, gave us an esky with ice and water and made sure we were comfortable.
A pleasant hour in and out of the pool and reading our books was just what we needed.
We had very nice views out of our hotel windows and the beach looked very inviting if you like sand.

We were going to visit the mosque in the background of this photo, but just too hot. We sufficed with listening to the calls for pray that went on every 4 hours. The flight to Greece was quite quick but unfortunately no entertainment system on the plane, or wifi, and Bruce’s book hadn’t properly downloaded, so we had to do with listening to music.
Good idea which we will think about again next time, maybe.
