The weather has been beautiful during our stay in Vientiane, mid 20’s and very little humidity. We haven’t even been encouraged to go swimming. We went for a bit of a walk around on Tuesday but didn’t really see too much, we are terrible tourists since we don’t like museums or churches (Wats, Temple etc). The Patuxai was quite interesting and at night it is well lit up with a pretty fountain just a bit further up the road. During the daylight it is still impressive. Some people call it the Vertical runway since the funding used to it build was originally donated to upgrade the airport.

The first night we walked around looking for a restaurant, but couldn’t find anything, so we went to the huge shopping mall next to our hotel and joined the people outside in the food court. We couldn’t read the menu so when Rosie ordered what she thought was something like chicken nuggets she got a chicken hotpot instead.

It was full of chicken bones, with a bit of meat on them as well as chicken feet. She wasn’t impressed.
The next night we went to the walking street and food street. Unfortunately the food street was mainly dug up and being replaced, which meant it wasn’t very safe to walk around. Our guide gave us some really good descriptions of the types of foods available. Rosie was very impressed with the boiled fertilised eggs. The babies inside were all about 2 weeks matured.

We then got Mr Tot to take us to a nice restaurant so that we didn’t waste anymore time walking around looking at food we wouldn’t eat.

Back to our hotel after this. We are staying at the Green Park Boutique hotel and it is exceptionally good. The rooms are spacious and the staff are very helpful with a good command of English. Each morning we are given a breakfast menu to choose from which had the usual English breakfast or Croissant filled options. The scrambled egg and bacon croissant is very nice. Personalised coffees and a buffet of cold meats and pastries tops it off.
One of the best hotels we have stayed and less than $150 a night with breakfast.
