Luang Prabang Golf Club 1

We left Bangkok on Wednesday and flew AirAsia to Luang Prabang. Had a couple of problems at checkin when they didn’t recognise our golf clubs as a piece of luggage, thought it was special sports equipment, but all was solved in the end. It was a nice flight and everything else went well, entry to Lao was pretty simple since we had organised e-visa before leaving,

Rosie finally in a country where she isn’t the shortest

After settling into our very interesting hotel, we took a walk down to the Mekong River and sat in a small restaurant overlooking the river and watched the sunset.

The next morning we got up for golf and had a very sad breakfast at the hotel (what can you expect for $60 per night). Then off to Luang Prabang Golf Club, the only course in the town (40000 population).

We arrived at a clubhouse that would have fitted in very well into an Australian country town. Tin roof, small shower toilet area and a tiny bar. This is the only club we have visited that had four person golf carts which was also interesting.

The course was in reasonable condition and Neil loved the fact that the fairways weren’t cut too low. Again it was all very similar to a country golf course. Bruce’s caddy was very interested in her phone and her finger nails but didn’t know much about golf. The other caddies were quite ok, but nowhere near the standard of Thai caddies.

After the scoring achieved in our first game in Bangkok, we decided to all play off 18 handicaps. We gave Deb a 45 since she doesn’t play as much as the rest of us. We started on the 10th hole. Neil played much better initially, as did Rosie but Bruce struggled a bit. As the game wore on, the heat started to affect everyone and Bruce started to make a comeback.

All up is was an enjoyable game and we are looking forward to playing again in a couple of days.
