On our last day in Athens, our plane was an hour late departing, which wasn’t good given we only had a two hour stopover planned.
When we arrived in Abu Dhabi we thought they would race us to the next gate, instead they took us off to the side, gave us new boarding passes for a flight 12 hours later.
Then we were directed to Etihad Services where we got a taxi pass and taken to a hotel. Dinner was given to us and then off to bed for 6 hours before a light breakfast and back to the airport.
If it wasn’t for the fact that our luggage stayed at the airport so we didn’t have a change of clothes or Bruce’s medications, it would have been perfect.
Check in and customs is very quick in Abu Dhabi since most people only transit and don’t leave the airport. Both times we stayed, we got through checkin in about 20 minutes.
We arrived in Phuket at 7pm instead of 7am so it didn’t affect any of our plans. When we got to our hotel, our golf clubs came out of their storage and we were ready to play the next morning.
A first for us, but not at all upsetting. Very impressed with Etihad’s service.
