On Saturday we moved to Hua Hin, which is South of Bangkok and on the ocean. The weather has been cool and windy, which is very pleasant and much better than the usual hot and humid.
First thing when we arrived was to change some money and Bruce was very surprised to be told that most of the money exchanges had closed down and we now had to go to the bank. After a bit of a walk around, we didn’t find any so we used an ATM to get out some money.
We then went to the beach for a drink over the ocean. Everyone went back to the hotel, but Bruce continued down a road he knew and suddenly found a money exchange, so all was good in the world. The exchange rate here was about 10% better than the ATM.
Next day, we were off to Banyan GC. This is one of the most expensive games and you could easily see why. The carts had GPS screens to tell you distances, an esky on the side with water in it and my caddy spoke nearly perfect English.
The course was in very good condition and Rosie and Neil played much better. Bruce didn’t get any putts and chipped badly and it wasn’t until the last four holes that he caught up a bit.
Overall, the course is well worth visiting and you would need to make up your own mind if it is value for money.
Bruce had a lovely chat with his caddy, she was 24 and very pretty. She had broken up with her boyfriend recently, he was 50 and Swiss. I asked her why she didn’t date Thai men and she told me that Thai men thought she was too dark skinned and hence that she wasn’t pretty, obviously she found this offensive. It did give me another insight into why so many Thai girls would attach themselves to older foreigners.
