Joondallup Golf Resort – 2023

Last year Bruce went to his first AGM of a company that he owns shares in. Wesfarmers holds theirs in Perth and he had such a good time that this year he convinced Rosie to come along. Jim and Anne thought it would be fun too, so Jim bought some shares so they could also attend.

We stayed at the “West End Warehouse” in Little High Street, Fremantle, which was a four storey apartment, with a bedroom on level 2, living room kitchen on level 3 and another bedroom on level 4. This meant a lot of climbing of stairs, but it was very nice for a short stay. We were across the road from the “Round House” and had good ocean views from the top balcony.

Rosie loved the AGM, going from stand to stand picking up giveaways. The AGM was informative, but the questions that people asked were the most entertaining (and in most cases, ludicrous). Michael Chaney, the chairman, was excellent at answering the questions. It was very interesting hearing him explain why they donated $2 million to the “YES” campaign, many shareholders were not happy. After the AGM we enjoyed several free drinks and some wonderful food, while listening to the creators of “Koorlbardi wer Wardong ” (an opera written in Noongar), Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse (pictured above). Gina had a beautiful voice and we really enjoyed it when she sang “Moon River” in both Noongar and English.

Over the next couple of days we played golf at Joondallup. This is definitely the most interesting course in WA, being set within an old limestone quarry. It is not long (off the white tees) but you must plan out your game or you will be caught by one of the many different types of hazards. Our scores were not good, but we did enjoy it.

On the Wednesday night we went to dinner with Dave and Barb at their house in Subiaco. Sally and Shaun were also in Subiaco celebrating their 43rd wedding anniversary. The second night dinner was at Little Creatures Brewery, the third night we dined at Sandrino, when we couldn’t get into the Capri (it was very good Italian). On the last night we had Indian at Lions and Tigers, which was very nice but not at all traditional. I really liked the sour dough naan and the onion and leek bhaji. Breakfast every morning across the road at “Chalkies” was very popular and good.
