Eastern Star Golf Club

One Bruce’s aims on this trip was to play all the Robert Trent Jones Jr designed courses in Thailand. RTJ is the designer of both Joondallup and Meadow Springs and we love these two course in WA. He usually doesn’t do long courses but places the hazard well so that you need to think about the placement of your shots.

We were not disappointed with this course, the water hazards encouraged good decision making. We both played well and our caddies were good. The greens were very slow and a bit inconsistent, which meant that we both three putted a couple of times. One of the cheaper courses we played (around $84 each with caddy and cart) but definitely worth playing again.

Silky Oak Golf Club

This was the first course we played and it was also the cheapest. They have recently renovated the course and created some new holes which meant that our Hole19 scoring and distance program didn’t work very well. Some of the tee shots were over trees to a hidden fairway that made it difficult to judge your shot.

We both played pretty well but could have scored much better if the greens were more consistent. Some were very slow, the grass on the greens differed and the speed going through the different grasses was difficult to predict.

At this stage I wouldn’t go back again, but it may be much better in a couple of years.
